This summer, Arsenal Contemporary Art Montreal is pleased to welcome Matt Goerzen in residence. The Canadian artist will be in creative work (May 24 - July 28, 2016) as part of the group exhibition I feel we think bad presented from July 29 to Dec 23, 2016 at Arsenal Contemporary Art Montreal.
About
Matt Goerzen focuses his research on sock-puppets, a term used on the web to describe social media profiles that are created by governments or corporations to manipulate information. A fascinating topic to explore, he presents it in a literal way, using real sock puppets, which sometimes represent public figures. For his installation, he has created a series of puppet theaters, each based on a virtual or real environment. Through his paintings, he attempts to reflect the way information is shaped in these virtual environments, often in an artistic or theatrical way.
Matt Goerzen was born in 1984 in Saskatchewan. Graduated from McGill University in 2016, Concordia University and Carleton University, he lives and works between Los Angeles and Montreal. His recent exhibitions include Souriez! Les émotions au travail at Musée d’art de Joliette (Canada), Real Time at Seventeen Gallery (London, England), 25 of 78: International Media Art from the Series HMKV Video of the Month at Hartware MedienKunstVerein (Dortmund, Germany), You Won’t Believe (...) at Blouin Division Gallery (Montreal, Canada) and Matt Goerzen at Future Gallery (Berlin, Germany).
